THE ORIGIN OF ‘PSYCHOLOGY&HORROR’

Posted: November 23, 2012 in Horror News

My young friend “Mr. Guts” and I thought of ‘Psychology&Horror’ when we discussed how realistic horror movies really are. Are there really people who are as sick as ‘Norman Bates’ ‘Mrs. Voorhees’ ‘Michael Myers’ and ‘The Collector’?? As much as I want to give movie writers all the credit; the fact is that some horror movies are inspired by real life events. One such case would be Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’ which was based on the life of ‘Ed Gein’. With that said, the real life story is NEVER as exciting as the movie; it takes a talented writer to take a real life incident and turn it into a classic that will never die! I chose to do ‘The Collector’ for my first segment because he is unique and original; “The Collector” is different from Michael Myers and Jason because he is human and can be killed. Arkin was more than able to bring out the human qualities in “The Collector” in the last 20 minutes of the movie. This is scary because people like this exist, which makes it more believable than a movie where someone goes to hell and then ends up in space (‘Jason X’). I am a psych major and “Mr. Guts’ is..well..OBSESSED with horror movies. I admit I can be a little obsessive when it comes to horror movies; in fact, I would say we both get quite the boner when it comes to movies like ‘The Collector’. Put two brilliant brains together (ha) and you get one hell of a weekly segment! If you missed the first segment, it can be found under ‘Psychology&Horror’..weird, huh?
